The Roads, Rocks, Weeds + Soil (RRWS) framework grew out of my study of Luke 8 and the Parable of the Sower.
In this parable, Jesus explains how the Word of God is received in the human heart. The story reveals why some people hear the Word, but it never takes root, while others receive it and produce lasting fruit.
During my study of Luke, I began using the four stages of the parable to structure conversations for my podcast on faith, life, and spiritual growth. Over time, however, I began to see something deeper.
The same pattern Jesus described in the parable recurs throughout our lives as we grow in our relationship with Him. Truth crosses our path, circumstances test what we heard, distractions compete for our attention, and over time, our hearts are cultivated into good soil that produces fruit.
What began as a podcast structure quickly became a lens for understanding real-life situations.
The RRWS framework helps Christ followers recognize these stages in real time so we can respond with greater awareness, faith, and obedience as we continue growing into Christlikeness.
In this way, the Parable of the Sower becomes more than a story about hearing the Word. It becomes a problem-solving framework for Christ followers. 🌱

The moments when truth crosses our path. The Word, a conviction, or a revelation that God places before us along the journey.
Too often, we see it but overlook it, dismiss it, or keep moving before it has the chance to take root.
Then later, we reach the rocks and realize the truth we passed by was meant to prepare us for the obstacle ahead.

The circumstantial and often temporary obstacles reveal which truths have taken root in our hearts and which were only received on the surface.
When pressure, difficulty, or resistance appear, the truth we heard on the road suddenly becomes harder to live out.
Without depth, the seed struggles to find good soil.

Unlike rocks, weeds are deep-rooted distractions that do not appear as obvious obstacles. They grow quietly alongside the truth, slowly pulling our attention away from God’s plans and instructions.
Over time, worries, desires, influences, and misplaced priorities begin to crowd the space where the Word, or God’s purpose and plan, was meant to grow, choking what once had the potential to flourish.

The willing heart that receives the Word and God’s provision, holds onto it, and allows it to grow by remaining open, responsive, and faithful over time.
When truth is received, protected, and cultivated, it produces fruit. Not just for our own growth, but for the benefit of others who encounter the harvest.
This is how faith multiplies.
